Born in 1982, I experienced the profound impact of trauma early in life, growing up amidst domestic violence between my birth parents. After their divorce, my father promised weekend visits for me and my younger brother but never followed through. This absence left me grappling with feelings of unworthiness, which gradually led to a depressive state of mind. I longed for guidance and connection with my father but never received it, further compounding my struggles as I navigated childhood and adolescence

At the age of six, my mother remarried, a decision I couldn’t understand at the time. Adjusting to life with a stepfather intensified my inner turmoil, and I began rebelling—making poor decisions, surrounding myself with the wrong crowd, experimenting with drugs, and even selling them. Most significantly, I lost touch with self-love. Without a trusted guide to turn to, I sought advice and role models in the music of the 1990s, immersing myself in the voices of artists like N.W.A., Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, Master P, Outkast, and UGK. While these
influences shaped parts of my perspective, they also contributed to some of the negative decisions I made during that time.

As I grew older, I found myself repeating patterns. I married, had two children, and eventually divorced—mirroring the experiences I witnessed as a child. This cycle brought deep depression, leaving me trapped in a monotonous routine of work and survival. I was mentally and financially stagnant, battling thoughts of hopelessness and despair.

Eventually, I reached a turning point: I chose to live rather than merely exist. I began cultivating gratitude, initially by writing down three things I was thankful for each day. This practice expanded into pages of gratitude lists, which became a cornerstone of my healing journey. Alongside this, I turned to the Bible, self-help books, meditation, stretching, and fitness to rebuild my mind, body, and spirit.

During this transformative process, I realized that if I could overcome depression and reclaim my life, I could help others do the same. This revelation ignited my passion to uplift and empower others, leading me to become a motivational speaker and create a business dedicated to emotional intelligence and personal growth. I founded Build Your Own Brain, LLC, a movement rooted in unconditional self-love, gratitude, and emotional mastery.

Today, as the proud owner and founder of Build Your Own Brain, LLC, I am committed to inspiring individuals—adults and children alike—to harness their emotional intelligence, embrace self-love, and transform their lives.
