Courtney Dunham

Founder of 4th Quarter Shots | Houston

Courtney Dunham, born on September 9, 1992, in Houston, Texas, is a passionate athlete whose early experiences shaped a life dedicated to sports and community service. Growing up in a vulnerable neighborhood, Courtney faced numerous challenges, including being surrounded by the wrong crowds. However, she found solace and hope in basketball, a sport that became her guiding light.

Throughout her youth, Courtney’s talent for basketball began to emerge. Her memorable performances, especially when she scored over 50 points in a significant game, showcased her dedication and potential. This earned her recognition, and as a freshman on the varsity team, she made headlines in her local newspaper—an
achievement her mother cherishes even today. Inspired by encounters with players from the Houston Comets, Courtney practiced diligently, studying the moves of legends like Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, and Michael Jordan.

Despite facing obstacles, including time spent in juvenile detention, Courtney’s love for the game never waned. Although she didn’t play her last year in high school, God had a plan for her, and she received a scholarship to Lamar Colorado Junior College, thanks to someone who believed in her talent and submitted a film of her gameplay.

While Courtney currently works at Halliburton as an inventory specialist to support herself, her true calling lies in mentoring the next generation. She is deeply committed to training youth aspiring to elevate their basketball skills and helping women lead healthier lifestyles through fitness training. Also, in her personal time, Courtney
channels her experiences into giving back to her community. In 2024, she founded a nonprofit organization called 4th Quarter Shots, driven by her desire to glorify God and give back to her community. This initiative uses basketball as a tool to create a safe environment for youth, where they can come together, learn valuable lessons, and be introduced to Jesus Christ

Courtney’s mission is to pour into the youth what her coaches instilled in her: discipline, inspiration, and the drive to be the best. Trusting in God’s plan, as expressed in Jeremiah 29:11—which states, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope”—she works diligently to create an impactful organization that helps youth thrive both on and off the court.

With her unwavering faith, Courtney embodies the belief that “faith without work is dead.” She is committed to putting in the effort to ensure the next generation flourishes, fostering a strong sense of community and purpose. Her story is one of resilience, hope, and the steadfast assurance that through God’s guidance, anything is possible.
